چکیده

Surgicel® (regenerated oxidized cellulose) is a bio-absorbable hemostatic material widely applied to prevent surgery-derived adhesions. Some critical issues have been reported associated with this biomaterial, which we aimed overcome by producing bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) membranes activity, through electrochemical oxidation using the tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) radical. Samples were characterized FTIR, NMR, SEM, XRD and their degree of polymerization. The was evaluated titration carboxyl groups behavior whole-blood-clotting assays. In vitro in vivo biodegradability BNC compared that Surgicel®. increased from 4% 7% up 15%, corresponding an charge 400, 700 1200 Coulombs, respectively. preserved crystallinity 3D nano-fibrillar network, demonstrated although not as effective assays did induce inflammatory response, revealing good biocompatibility. However, non-degraded still detected at implantation site after 56 days.

Comparison of 10 different hemostatic dressings in an aortic injury.

BACKGROUND Uncontrolled hemorrhage is the leading preventable cause of death on the battlefield. Similarly, hemorrhage accounts for 80% of all deaths within the first 48 hours of injury in civilian trauma patients. New methods of hemostasis are required to reduce hemorrhagic mortality. The purpose of this study was to compare nine hemostatic dressings for their efficacy in controlling bleeding ...

Using In situ Dynamic Cultures to Rapidly Biofabricate Fabric-Reinforced Composites of Chitosan/Bacterial Nanocellulose for Antibacterial Wound Dressings

Bacterial nano-cellulose (BNC) is considered to possess incredible potential in biomedical applications due to its innate unrivaled nano-fibrillar structure and versatile properties. However, its use is largely restricted by inefficient production and by insufficient strength when it is in a highly swollen state. In this study, a fabric skeleton reinforced chitosan (CS)/BNC hydrogel with high m...

Amino Acid and Peptide Immobilization on Oxidized Nanocellulose: Spectroscopic Characterization

In this work, oxidized nanocellulose (ONC) was synthesized and chemically coupled with amino acids and peptides using a two step coupling method at room temperature. First, ONC was activated by N-ethyl-N'-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride, forming a stable active ester in the presence of N-hydroxysuccinimide. Second, the active ester was reacted with the amino group of the amin...
